Currently, fabrics that repair themselves (think no holes in socks), fabrics that dissolve in water over time (increasing fashion sustainability), fabrics that change texture in response to environmental factors such as heat and light (think goose bumps for your t-shirt), and a translucent fabric grown from bacteria with similar properties to leather all exist and may soon be available in a wardrobe near you.
