J.C. Penney is the picture of a business in disarray. The stock price is tanking, the vultures are circling. Penney’s shareholders and board members have opted not to air their dirty laundry behind closed doors, but to take it to the public in a wide-open, no-holds-barred yap-fest in full view of the public eye. This is not the sort of publicity a floundering company normally seeks.
